If you love Drupal, then you love hearing what Dries Buytaert has to say. I came across this awesome blog post on his top three tips for startups. I wanted to highlight some of his information because well, let’s face it; he’s a Drupal and web genius.

Dries says that he “believes that the technological waves of social media, mobile devices, and cloud computing are promoting a big change towards a fully digital economy. Increasingly many organizations are moving their business model to the web: a case in point is the White House’s own We the People site, modernizing and digitizing Americans’ constitutional right to petition the federal government (and, by the way, running on Drupal).” We can’t say we disagree with his logic. The web really has taken off and a fully digital economy would be pretty cool!

Since he’s worked in the entrepreneurial world for quite some time he does have some great tips for companies that are starting businesses in the digital age. To paraphrase his thoughts he says that startups should consider the following:

1. Make your business with passion. Without passion you have nothing. Make people believe what you believe. He states that is how Drupal got rolling. So many people were passionate about it.

2. It’s not about us it’s about the people. When you put the right team together, you can really do anything. Of course, you have to have your sight set on something bigger than yourself.

3. And last but not least, you need to focus but also don’t be afraid to fail. Failing is a part of learning and learning is a part of success.

And that’s his wisdom in a nutshell. Cheeky Monkey Media is grateful for the passion Dries Buytaert had to start Drupal and all the people that are incredibly passionate about it today!
